◎ Character's Name: Soramaru Kumou
◎ Character's Canon: Donten ni Warau

◎ Background/History: http://dontenniwarau.wikia.com/wiki/Soramaru_Kumo
The Wiki kind of sucks but I will try and give a proper breakdown of Donten Ni Warau.
Donten Ni Warau is a period piece set in the 11th year of the Meiji era in Japan. It is set in Japan's Shiga Prefecture and within that is the village of Otsu where Soramaru and his family live and have presumably lived for generations as the shrine is located there. Shiga itself is constantly overcast with clouds foreshadowing the Orochi's - a snake demon - return as it resurrects every 300 years. It is the job of the Kumou brothers since the first Kumou to aid in sealing the Orochi - unfortunately killing the vessel it possesses.
Soramaru was born to the Kumou family as the second son, after Tenka. As a young child he was cared for by his mother with Chuutaro while Tenka and their father trained with the Yamainu, whose goal was to suppress the Orochi - a great beast of calamity that arose every few hundred years within a vessel. Together the family of five lived peacefully in Shiga prefecture's Otsu village. Times were mostly peaceful for the village save for a few ronin here and there. The youngest children are blissfully unaware of the curse upon their home and the important struggle their family has undertaken.
Several years passed before a clansman of the Fuuma ninjas arrived and massacred Soramaru's father and mother in front of him before advancing on him as well. Tenka arrived in time to defend his younger brothers and became injured in the process. He convinces Soramaru that he is alright and that he does not need to be afraid and this plus the shock of witnessing his parent's deaths results in him having temporary amnesia for a decade after the incident.
Fast forward to those ten years and Soramaru has grown to be a typical moody teenager. His brother Tenka captures criminals for money, having left the Yamainu since his parent's death to raise his two brothers the best he can. Soramaru gets into trouble on several occasions - most of which is trouble of his own making - and it culminates to him learning more and more about the Orochi throughout the series. At one point he breaks into the infamous Condemned Prison Gate where his brother herds criminals for the police and tries to gather information for the Yamainu as payment for Sousei teaching him to fight and this is at great risk to his own safety.
Back tracking from that incident a bit - the return of Soramaru's repressed memories all started from an incident with an escaped convict that tried to choke Soramaru, triggering his repressed memories. He decides he wants to become stronger so that Tenka does not have to protect him anymore, feeling he's done enough for his two younger brothers. It prompts him to seek Abe no Sousei's instruction in the ways of the sword. In the Gaiden, he learns a bit more of what the Yamainu is about and later learns the larger role his family played in all of it.
It is not until after Tenka is arrested and supposedly executed that Soramaru finds out that he is in fact the Orochi's new vessel, the dormant beast slowly taking over his body at long last. It is also discovered that their friend Shirasu has betrayed them with the intent of making the Orochi his leader along with other Fuuma clan members who were thought to be dead. Given that the Fuuma worship the Orochi, they had a lot to gain from its revival. The goal was to revive the clan to former glory and eradicate the Meiji era government. This did not come to be and Soramaru is released from the Orochi and the beast is destroyed.
It is found out that Tenka was not killed and he aids the others in restoring order and destroying the Orochi. Unfortunately the Kumo brothers are left reeling from Shirasu's betrayal and his subsequent disappearance. A year passes since this and in Donten Ni Warau Gaiden more problems have begun to arise as those who were exposed to the Orochi's cells for government experiments escape from hiding and begin attacking and searching for Tenka.
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? No!
◎ Personality:
Soramaru is the most polite and responsible of the three Kumo brothers. He may not always be the most level headed but he is certainly the easiest one to deal with. Where Tenka is rather eccentric and Chuutaro is still young and childish, Soramaru seems to be a medium between the two brothers with a more calm approach, save for when under stress. He often times is exasperated with Tenka for his antics and the fact that Tenka always puts everything on himself and never relies on his younger brothers to help. Soramaru is usually the first one to tell Tenka and Chuutaro to reign themselves in or he's apologizing for Tenka's antics in particular. He can come across as abrasive at times and it will lead to Tenka either laughing at him as he always does.
Soramaru undergoes the most obvious character growth in the series, changing from a child who clings to his brother to a capable head of his clan. His relationship with his older brother is mixed with envy and a deep love. Tenka raised him and Chuutaro in place of their parents. He did the best he could to see to it that they were given all the love he could give them and to have a relatively normal childhood. It is obvious in subtle ways that Tenka was his 'parent' from Soramaru's easy way with people to his more cocky attitude later on in the Gaiden. He is a lot like a miniature Tenka except with more maturity. He is weaker than Tenka physically and despite years of training with him he never manages to beat him once. Tenka often laughs at his attempts and tells him it will be a hundred years before he catches up. Often times Soramaru is left looking at his back and feeling angry and helpless over his inability to become as strong as his brother. He wants more than anything to protect, just as his brother does, and uphold Tenka's wishes for him to surpass him some day. This was a promise the two of them made some years after their parents died and something Soramaru strives to fulfill.
On the opposite spectrum, Chuutaro and Soramaru are often a pair. They are left to tend to the shrine whenever Tenka goes out on one of his jobs - apprehending criminals for the Condemned Prison Gate. Their relationship is that of a typical older and younger brother. Chuutaro looks up to both him and Tenka and will be quick to tag along with either of them whether needed or not. Soramaru does his best to protect and guide him but at the same time he is often the unlucky messenger to Tenka whenever Soramaru does something stupid. (An example is when he breaks into the Condemned Prison Gate to gain information for the Yamainu in hopes that with it Sousei can be convinced to teach him the ways of the sword). Chuutaro and he do get into fights now and again, often resulting in Chuutaro running to Tenka and crying for advice on how to reconcile with his older brother. Both boys hero worship their big brother and are devastated for a time when he is presumed dead.
While Soramaru is envious of his brother, Tenka, he looks up to and deeply admires Tenka's friend and later Soramaru's teacher, Abe no Sousei. Their relationship starts off rocky, with Sousei admonishing Soramaru on several occasions for even trying to get him to teach him to use a sword and later because he cannot seem to put himself together after Tenka's execution. Eventually Sousei warms up to him and the two become close and have a strong bond as teacher and pupil and helps him find confidence to become more capable as a leader and the head of his clan. He even states that he won't keep training with him at one point until he pulls himself together and this pushes him to do so. It is obvious how much in stronger Soramaru grows over time through his training with the Yamainu captain. Like his brother and Sousei, Soramaru strives to protect people and do good. He has a close bond with many of the villagers of Otsu who look to the Kumou brothers for safety and security. They treat the brothers like family.
Soramaru is a kind and gentle person who cares for others. He grows an easy friendship/rivalry with another Yamainu captain, Takeda. He also becomes close with characters such as Botan, Abe no Hirari and Nishiki. Nishiki in particuar is someone he holds a strong attachment to. Even though she is a Fuuma, like Shirasu, she has proven to be trustworthy and kind. Often times Soramaru has to call her off as she becomes over zealous in her attempts to protect him from harm, attacking most anyone she doesn't know that gets too physically close to him if they seem to be a threat. She is as terrible at cooking as Shirasu and makes Soramaru weird dishes in order to do nice things for him as she is grateful he has taken her into his home despite considering herself unworthy of much of anything. She also seems to have a crush on him. It is unknown if these feelings are mutual but Soramaru has been known to preoccupy his thoughts with her while training with Takeda.
Soramaru is a decent cook and is usually in charge of the cooking while Shirasu or Chuutaro clean. Tenka sometimes gets on his nerves as he will lay about or sleep or drink when he could be doing something productive around the shrine. Though he does wish he could help his brother catch criminals. He does become more capable of holding his own after training with Sousei and even later in the Gaiden but it is noted to not be on the same level of Tenka still.
When Tenka stops taking Orochi cell injections by Soramaru's canon point, the older Kumou brother becomes paralyzed on one side of his body (from the injury sustained when their family was attacked) and this leaves Soramaru to pick up the slack quite a bit as far as duties with their village and apprehending criminals, along with Chuutaro. In the beginning of the series this would not have been possible as he constantly felt unsure of himself despite his thirst to prove himself but as the series has progressed and becomes quite capable and confident - and even cocky at times when training with Sousei - and more than capable of taking on grown men on his own. Though it should be noted these men are usually of a far weaker skill level and someone of Tenka or Souse's caliber is out of his league.
◎ Powers/Abilities: As the Orochi (this may not apply anymore since he is no longer the orochi's vessel but still good for reference I think!!)
Immense physical strength and speed. Though he is weak to sunlight. He can cause the weather to become overcast as well though once it clears up or he hits sunlight somehow it doesn't seem to come back.
As a human his abilities are mostly above average though not on par to someone like Tenka or Sousei. He still has a bit of a ways to go but he is decent at hand to hand and swordsmanship. He moves fast and is decent at reading his opponents movements. Outside of combat he's just very good at making meals.
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory: The Family heirloom swords! (I forget what they are called forgive me) Also they're broken. Sorry, Soramaru :')
Also clothes would be pretty good...
